Why do some pairs of notes sound sweet?
What you’ll see
Pluck a string, then one exactly half as long. The short string vibrates twice for every once, so their waves keep lining up. Your ear hears that as sweet: an octave. Three against two, a fifth, still lines up. Make the ratio messy, and the waves never agree. That sounds sour.
